Airbus A350 bolts under scrutiny: FAA's safety checklist grows

Published Date: 4/29/2025

Proposed Rule

Summary

The FAA wants to make sure certain Airbus A350 airplanes stay super safe by checking some bolts that might have tiny cracks. If they find any problems, they’ll fix them right away. This rule affects specific A350 models and aims to keep flights smooth without costing a fortune or causing delays.

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Inspection Requirement for A350 Pylon Bolts

The FAA proposes an airworthiness directive that applies to Airbus Model A350-941 and A350-1041 airplanes requiring a special detailed inspection of certain pylon bolts and any needed corrective actions. The inspections and corrective actions must follow the procedures specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD that the FAA proposes to incorporate by reference.

Addresses Unsafe Bolt Condition on A350s

The proposed AD was prompted by reports of deep spot faces on rib 9 at the lower flange bolting with the lower spar and is intended to address that unsafe condition on Airbus Model A350-941 and A350-1041 airplanes. The goal is to remedy discrepancies found during inspections to maintain safety of affected aircraft.
