Notice

Summary

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) updated its 2025 meeting rules to keep things clear, open, and easy to join—both in person and online. These changes affect anyone interested in nuclear safety reviews, letting the public share their thoughts and stay informed with flexible agendas. No big costs or delays here, just smoother, more transparent meetings starting this year.

Analyzed Economic Effects

6 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Submit Written Comments 5 Days Early

If you want your written comments considered by the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, send them to the Designated Federal Officer (DFO) by email or mail at least 5 days before the meeting so the Committee can reproduce and distribute them in time.

Request to Speak 5 Days Before

If you want to make an oral statement at an ACRS Full Committee meeting, you should request time from the DFO, preferably 5 days before the meeting, and identify the topics and amount of time needed so the Chairman can schedule your presentation.

Join Meetings Virtually

Open portions of ACRS meetings will offer virtual attendance options for public observers, and the agenda on NRC and ACRS websites will include the relevant virtual access information.

Recordings and Transcript Access

Audio/visual recordings of open meeting portions are allowed at the Chairman's discretion if the DFO is notified at least 5 working days before the meeting; transcripts for certain open portions will be kept and made available on the NRC/ACRS websites, in the Public Document Room, and via ADAMS.

Subcommittee Agendas Posted 10 Days Prior

ACRS Subcommittee agendas will be published on the NRC and ACRS public meeting websites 10 calendar days before the meeting instead of being published in the Federal Register 15 days prior.

Closed Sessions for Proprietary Information

Portions of ACRS meetings may be closed to discuss classified, proprietary, or sensitive information; persons with effective proprietary-information agreements may attend those closed portions after confirming the agreement with the DFO at least 5 working days before the meeting and providing a copy of the executed agreement.
