Communities must adopt measures to keep NFIP participation

FEMA says the FIRM and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report are the basis for floodplain management measures that a community must adopt or show evidence of having in effect to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). If a listed community does not adopt the required measures, the community’s participation in the NFIP could be at risk, which would affect residents' access to NFIP flood insurance.

Flood maps may change your flood zone

FEMA proposes changes to flood maps for certain listed communities that could add or change Base Flood Elevations (BFE), base flood depths, Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries or zone designations, or regulatory floodways on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). If you live or own property in one of the listed communities, these map changes could change whether you are in a high-risk flood zone and could affect flood insurance rules and costs for your property.
