Proposed changes to flood maps
FEMA is proposing changes to Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and supporting Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports that may add or modify Base Flood Elevations (BFE), base flood depth, Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries or zone designations, or regulatory floodways. If you live in or manage property in one of the affected communities, these map changes could affect your flood insurance and local building rules.
Community requirement to adopt floodplain measures
The preliminary FIRM and FIS reports are the basis for floodplain management measures that a community is required to adopt or show evidence of having in effect in order to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This affects communities named in the notice and the people and businesses who rely on NFIP participation.
