Published Date: 7/23/2025

Notice

Summary

Great Basin Gas Transmission Company plans to expand its natural gas pipeline to deliver more gas to North Nevada and Northern California by 2026. The government will review the project’s environmental impact and expects to finish this review by early 2026, helping keep things on track. This expansion means more energy for the region and involves careful checks to protect the environment.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Pipeline adds regional gas capacity

If you live or do business in North Nevada or Northern California, Great Basin plans to increase firm natural gas transportation capacity by 8,129 dekatherms per day (Dth/d). The Commission staff will issue an environmental assessment (EA) on November 25, 2025, and other federal agencies have a 90-day decision deadline of February 23, 2026.

Local construction and pipeline replacement work

Great Basin proposes to install about 2.3 miles of new 20-inch pipeline loop in Washoe County and remove and replace about 2.4 miles of 10-inch pipeline with 20-inch pipe in Lyon County, Nevada. The work includes abandonment by removal and same-ditch replacement, which will occur on land in those counties.

Public comment period and assistance

The Commission will publish an EA with a 30-day public comment period starting when the EA is issued on November 25, 2025, and provides Office of Public Participation (OPP) assistance for landowners, Tribal members, and others to access information and make filings. The notice gives a federal decision deadline of February 23, 2026 for agencies that must issue federal authorizations.

EA will address wildlife and cultural concerns

The Bureau of Land Management and others commented that wildlife, special species, survey protocols, and the need for Class III cultural resource inventories are primary issues; the EA will address all substantive comments on these topics. The BLM is a cooperating agency on the EA.
