HRSA Extends Health Center Performance Periods by Year
Published Date: 8/14/2025
Notice
Summary
HRSA is giving health centers an extra year to do their important work by extending their performance periods from 3 to 4 years. This means centers get more time before reapplying for funding, with money staying about the same. The change helps keep health care steady for communities without messing with the rules or quality checks.
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.
Health Center Performance Period Extended
HRSA is extending Health Center Program performance periods from 3 years to 4 years. This gives current health centers one extra year before they must apply for a new award, while the funding amount will be consistent with what would have been available through the Service Area Competition (SAC).
Compliance Penalty Rule Remains Unchanged
HRSA will keep the existing rule that health centers that fail to meet Health Center Program requirements will receive a 1-year performance period if a new project period is awarded. The extension to a 4-year performance period does not change this statutory requirement.
