Starting June 26, 2025, the FDA allows galdieria extract blue to be used safely as a color additive in many foods and drinks when used at levels consistent with good manufacturing practice (GMP). The rule lists uses including non-alcoholic beverages, fruit drinks and smoothies, dairy-based drinks, breakfast cereal coatings, hard and soft candy, ice cream and frozen desserts, puddings, whipped toppings, and similar products.
Food Makers Allowed New Color Ingredient
As of June 26, 2025, food manufacturers and product developers may add galdieria extract blue to the listed product types (for example, beverages, candies, dairy-based drinks, frozen desserts, and frostings) provided they use it at levels consistent with good manufacturing practice (GMP).
