15‑Day Public Comment Extension

PHMSA extended the public comment period by 15 days so anyone can submit comments on Southern Natural Gas's special permit request. You have until October 27, 2025 to file comments about safety, environmental, or other concerns.

SNG Permit Would Cover 17,740 Feet

Southern Natural Gas asked to reincorporate a 948-foot pipeline segment into special permit PHMSA-2016-0006 so the permit would cover 17,740 feet (about 3.360 miles) of pipeline across Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. The special permit would allow deviations from 49 CFR 192.611(a), 192.611(d), and 192.619(a) for segments that changed from a Class 1 to a Class 3 location; the existing permit is effective until March 17, 2028.

PHMSA Finds No Significant Environmental Impact

PHMSA reviewed the final environmental assessment and found that expanding the proposed special permit would not result in significant impacts to the human environment, and no further environmental assessment is required under the National Environmental Policy Act. This finding applies to the proposed permit expansion for the listed pipeline segments.
