You (students) and institutions (schools, local or tribal governments, and private-sector respondents) will continue to provide the same information for Federal Perkins Loan cancellations. The Department seeks reinstatement without change of the information collection (OMB Control Number 1845-0100), with an estimated 116,872 annual responses and 43,832 total annual burden hours; comments are due December 22, 2025.

Information Used to Verify Eligibility and Prevent Fraud

If you have a Federal Perkins Loan, the information collected will be used to determine your eligibility for loan cancellation and to help prevent fraud and abuse of program funds under 34 CFR 674.53–674.59. The Department says there are no changes to these regulatory requirements.
