Summary

BOX Exchange is updating its rules to let traders use FLEX Equity Options on the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, a popular Bitcoin-related fund. If you trade options or Bitcoin ETFs, this could mean more flexible and exciting opportunities to manage your money.

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

FLEX Options Allowed on IBIT

You will be able to trade FLEX Equity Options on the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) on BOX Exchange because BOX filed to permit FLEX trading on IBIT (filed November 17, 2025). The Commission waived the 30-day operative delay on December 2, 2025 and designated the change operative upon filing.

FLEX and Non-FLEX Positions Aggregated

BOX will aggregate any FLEX and non-FLEX positions in IBIT when calculating position and exercise limits. For example, under a 250,000-contract position limit assumption, BOX would restrict a participant from holding positions that could result in the receipt of more than 250,000,000 shares if those options were exercised.

Exchange Trading Reduces Counterparty Risk

FLEX IBIT options traded on BOX would be issued and guaranteed by The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC), which reduces counterparty credit risk compared with over-the-counter (OTC) FLEX contracts. The Exchange cites OCC guarantee and exchange-trading as improving transparency and price discovery.

May Move OTC Liquidity to Exchange

BOX expects that FLEX IBIT options will attract market participants who currently trade similar customized FLEX options in the OTC market (e.g., hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, pension funds) and that this migration could increase liquidity and price discovery on the exchange. The filing also states offering FLEX IBIT options may open the market to more retail investors.

Immediate Operative Upon Filing

The Commission waived the 30-day operative delay and designated the proposed rule change to be operative upon filing, which was filed November 17, 2025 (waiver granted December 2, 2025). This means BOX may offer FLEX trading on IBIT without waiting the normal 30-day delay.
