FEMA extends REP information collection
FEMA will extend, without change, its information collection for the Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) Program under OMB control number 1660-0024. FEMA estimates 104 respondents, 3,400 total annual burden hours, $258,706 in total annual respondent cost, and $736,064 annual federal cost; comments are due January 7, 2026.
Participation is voluntary but regulated
Participation in offsite radiological emergency planning is voluntary. However, jurisdictions that choose to participate must follow program rules in 44 CFR part 350, the joint NRC/FEMA document NUREG-0654/FEMA-REP-1, Rev. 2, and the REP Program Manual.
States must run joint emergency exercises
Under 44 CFR part 350, States must conduct joint exercises involving local governments, the State, and the NRC licensee to demonstrate 'reasonable assurance.' Reasonable assurance includes having procedures, trained personnel, facilities, equipment, and regular drills and exercises.
