Grand Gulf ESP 20‑Year Renewal Request
On September 24, 2025, System Energy Resources Inc. filed an application to renew the Grand Gulf early site permit (ESP-002) for an additional 20 years beyond the current license, which expires in April 2027. The application was made available on October 2, 2025 and seeks to extend the period specified in the current license.
Request to Waive Update Requirement (10 CFR 52.29)
The renewal application includes a request for an exemption from 10 CFR 52.29 that would waive the requirement that a renewal application "contain all information necessary to bring up to date the information and data contained in the previous application." That exemption request was submitted September 24, 2025 (ADAMS ML25267A217).
Proposal to Pilot NEI 25-06 Alternate Renewal Method
The renewal application references and proposes to pilot the alternate ESP renewal method described in Appendix A to NEI 25-06, Revision 0. The NRC is reviewing NEI 25-06, Rev. 0 and has not made a final determination on the guidance's acceptability (NEI guidance dated June 9, 2025; ADAMS ML25171A132).
Future Public Docketing and Hearing Notices
The NRC will publish subsequent Federal Register notices about whether the renewal application is acceptable for docketing and, if accepted, will provide provisions for public participation in the review process, including an opportunity to request a hearing. Publicly available materials will be posted in ADAMS and on the NRC public website.
