FAA updates instrument approach and takeoff procedures
Starting December 29, 2025, the FAA is establishing, amending, suspending, or removing Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs), Takeoff Minimums, and Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODPs) for operations at certain airports to provide safe and efficient instrument flight operations. The amendatory language identifies affected airports, procedures, amendment numbers, and the applicable effective dates.
Some procedure amendments take effect quickly for safety
Some SIAP and Takeoff Minimums and textual ODP amendments may be made effective in less than 30 days or immediately as emergency actions via Flight Data Center (FDC) NOTAMs when needed for flight safety. Other amendments have effective dates at least 30 days after publication and each procedure's compliance date is specified in the amendment.
Updated SIAPs and ODPs available free online
All SIAPs, Takeoff Minimums, and ODPs are available online free of charge from the National Flight Data Center at nfdc.faa.gov, and individual copies may be obtained from the FAA Air Traffic Organization Service Area that covers the affected airport. The rule incorporates the FAA form documents (e.g., Forms 8260-3, 8260-15A) by reference.
FAA certifies minimal impact on small entities
The FAA certified that this amendment will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities under the Regulatory Flexibility Act. The FAA also determined the anticipated impact of the technical amendments is minimal and does not require a regulatory evaluation.
