Notice

Summary

The FAA is renewing its approval to collect info for aircraft registration and adding two new forms while moving one form to a different collection. If you own or deal with aircraft, this affects you! They’re asking for comments by January 29, 2026, to make sure the process stays smooth without extra hassle or cost.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Affidavit Lets UA Owners Register

The FAA added AC Form 8050-88UA, an Affidavit of Ownership for Unmanned Aircraft, so registrants can use the affidavit in place of a recordable bill of sale when evidence of ownership is not available. The new form collects details like registration number, manufacturer, model, serial number, engine type, number of seats, max takeoff weight, and how/where the UA was purchased.

Priority Processing for International Flights

The FAA created AC Form 8050-138, Declaration of International Operation, which lets registrants request priority handling of registration documents when they have an impending international flight. The form collects aircraft description plus flight date, flight number, departing and destination locations and is intended to alleviate undue hardship for applicants such as major air carriers and small businesses.

Option to Withhold Personal Info From Public Display

The FAA will collect information to process requests from private aircraft owners or operators to withhold their personally identifiable information from FAA public dissemination or display (including the FAA's public website) in accordance with 49 U.S.C. 44114(b).

Registration Collection Renewed; Time Burden Estimated

The FAA is renewing OMB approval for the Aircraft Registration information collection (OMB Control Number 2120-0042). The agency estimates approximately 177,201 respondents, an average burden of 15 to 30 minutes per response, and a total annual burden of 87,525 hours.
