CY 2026 POV Rates Effective Dates
The new mileage reimbursement rates apply to official travel and relocation performed on or after January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026. These are the only official 2026 rates agencies should use for privately owned vehicle reimbursements.
POA Rate Follows IRS Standard Mileage
GSA will set the privately owned automobile (POA) mileage reimbursement rate for CY 2026 equal to the Internal Revenue Service single standard mileage rate. That IRS-based POA rate is the statutory standard GSA must use for official automobile travel reimbursements.
Motorcycle and Airplane Rates Set Annually
GSA conducts annual independent reviews to set CY 2026 mileage reimbursement rates for privately owned motorcycles and airplanes. Reviews consider fuel, depreciation, maintenance, insurance, taxes, and consumer price index data when establishing those rates.
Moving Rate Uses IRS Medical/Moving Rate
When a government-furnished automobile is available and authorized, GSA uses the IRS mileage rate for medical or moving purposes to determine the POA rate. That IRS medical/moving mileage rate also represents the privately owned vehicle (POV) standard mileage reimbursement rate for official relocation.
