Published Date: 1/8/2026
Notice
Summary
The Air Force, along with the Army, Navy, and FAA, is planning to improve the special airspace over the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex to make training safer and more efficient. This could affect local communities, wildlife, and businesses, so they’re asking for public input through virtual meetings and comments starting January 2026. The draft plan will come out in early 2027, with final decisions expected in 2028, but no big costs are announced yet.

Airspace Expansion near Alaska
The Air Force and partner agencies are considering redesigning and expanding Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC) special activity airspace. Action alternatives would redesign the northern JPARC, establish new airspace over the Gulf of Alaska (including two Warning Areas, two Military Operations Areas, and associated ATCAAs), and create two large western complexes (location varies by alternative: Neacola/Yeti; Bettles/Yeti; or Neacola/Tanana). The Draft EIS will analyze potential impacts on employment, noise, air quality, airspace management, and biological and cultural resources.
Public Scoping and Comment Window
There is a 30-day public scoping period starting January 8, 2026, with four virtual scoping meetings in Alaska Time on January 24 (10:00 a.m.), January 26 (6:00 p.m.), January 28 (6:00 p.m.), and January 29 (10:00 a.m.), 2026. You can submit written scoping comments via the project website (www.JPARCairspaceEIS.com) or by mail to JPARC Airspace EIS, c/o Stantec, 501 Butler Farm Rd., Suite H, Hampton, VA 23666.
