Published Date: 2/4/2026

Notice

Summary

Cboe EDGX Exchange is updating a rule to change how it defines a 'Unique Identifier' in its EdgeRisk Self Trade Prevention system. This tweak helps prevent accidental trades between the same trader’s accounts more clearly and starts right away. Traders using EDGX should note this change, but it won’t cost them extra money.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Broader ERSTP Unique Identifier Options

If you send orders to Cboe EDGX, the exchange changed what counts as a 'Unique Identifier' for its EdgeRisk Self Trade Prevention (ERSTP). A Unique Identifier can now be created at the MPID level, at the firm level, or when you say ERSTP is needed to prevent trades with no change in beneficial ownership. The rule became effective upon filing on January 28, 2026, the Exchange plans implementation in the first quarter of 2026, and the Exchange says this change will not cost Users extra money.

Attestation Required for New IDs

If you request a Unique Identifier under the new third situation (to prevent trades with no change in beneficial ownership), you must complete an Exchange-provided attestation before the Exchange creates the identifier. The Exchange will not require an attestation for Unique Identifiers created at the MPID level or firm level.
