E-bike Use Is Discretionary Locally
This rule authorizes traditional bicycle use on the designated trails but does not itself authorize e-bikes on those trails; Class 1 electric bicycles are allowed where traditional bicycles are allowed only if the Superintendent later authorizes them under 36 CFR 4.30(i). The NPS may impose limits, conditions, or closures for e-bike use based on safety and resource protection.
Nearly 80 Miles of Trails Opened
Starting March 11, 2026, the National Park Service authorizes bicycle use on approximately 79.8 miles of multi-use trails at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The Superintendent will list the designated trails in the Superintendent's Compendium and on maps at the visitor center and the park website.
Some Trails Remain Closed or Reserved
The rule and supporting text say specific trail segments remain closed to bicycle use and some trails are reserved for the Whiskeytown Environmental School (WES). The WES-only trails listed include Ladybug Lane Trail, Martha's Ditch Trail, and the Ridge Trail.
