Temporary safety zone blocks boats

On August 1, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. through noon, the Coast Guard will enforce a safety zone on all waters between Bayfield, WI and LaPointe, WI for the Point to La Pointe Swim. If you operate a vessel inside the polygon defined by the listed coordinates (starting at 46°48'50" N, 090°48'44" W and returning to that point), you must follow directions from the Patrol Commander or any Official Patrol displaying a Coast Guard ensign during that period. This may require boaters to adjust plans for a few hours.

Advance notices sent to mariners

The Coast Guard plans to provide advance notification of this enforcement period via the Local Notice to Mariners and Broadcast Notice to Mariners. The Captain of the Port Duluth can be contacted via Channel 16, VHF-FM, or at (218) 522-0708 for information about the August 1, 2026 enforcement from 7:00 a.m. through noon.
