Information Collection Being Reviewed by the Federal Communications Commission Under Delegated Authority

Published Date: 2/9/2026

Notice

Summary

The FCC is asking for your thoughts on a paperwork form that helps them do their job better. This affects about 1,000 people who need to spend just 10 minutes filling it out. You’ve got until April 10, 2026, to share your ideas, and the FCC wants to keep things easy, especially for small businesses.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Amateur radio must notify before using bands

If you want to operate an amateur (ham) station in the 135.7–137.8 kHz or 472–479 kHz bands, you must notify the Utilities Telecom Council (UTC) before starting. You must submit your call sign, the band(s) you plan to use, and the coordinates of your antenna location; stations may only operate at fixed locations more than one kilometer from transmission lines carrying Power Line Carrier (PLC) signals, and you may commence operations after a 30-day period unless UTC informs you the location is within one kilometer.

Paperwork burden: 1,000 filers, 10 minutes

The FCC estimates this information collection affects 1,000 respondents (individuals or households), with an estimated 10 minutes (0.167 hours) per response, for a total annual burden of 167 hours and no dollar cost. The public may submit PRA comments on this collection on or before April 10, 2026, and the FCC requests ways to minimize burden, especially on small businesses with fewer than 25 employees.
