Possible New Mandatory Crib Safety Rules
You who use full-size baby cribs (for example, parents or guardians) should know that ASTM notified the CPSC on February 2, 2026 that it revised the voluntary crib standard to ASTM F1169-25. If the Commission does not reject the revision within 90 days, the revised standard will become a mandatory consumer product safety standard 180 days after the Commission received that notice. The Commission is asking for public comments by March 6, 2026 to help decide whether the revision improves crib safety.
Manufacturers May Face New Mandatory Requirements
If you make or sell full-size baby cribs, note that ASTM notified the CPSC on February 2, 2026 of a revised voluntary standard (ASTM F1169-25). Unless the Commission notifies ASTM within 90 days that it rejects the revision, the revised voluntary standard will be treated as a mandatory consumer product safety standard 180 days after the Commission received the notice. The Commission is accepting public comment through March 6, 2026 to inform its decision.
