The Department of Education is offering competitive grants for FY2026 to local parent organizations. The Department will not make an award exceeding $150,000 for a single 12-month budget period, with a total award not to exceed $750,000, and applications are due by June 5, 2026.

Who Qualifies as a Local Parent Organization

To apply, organizations must be a "local parent organization" as defined by IDEA: a private nonprofit (not an institution of higher education) whose board is majority parents of children with disabilities ages birth through 26 and that includes individuals working in special education or early intervention and individuals with disabilities. The board must be broadly representative of the population to be served, including low-income parents and parents of limited English proficient children.

Funding Intends to Help Parents and Families

The program's purpose is to ensure parents of children with disabilities receive high-quality, relevant training and information to help improve outcomes for their children. Funded centers will provide information and training to families of children with disabilities.
