Summary
The Forest Service wants to learn how states and territories manage and encourage good forest care on private and public lands. Standardized State Forest Data
The Forest Service will collect standardized, multi-module information from States and U.S. Territories about: (1) state financial incentive payment programs for private forests; (2) state regulation of forest management and timber harvests including Forest Practices Acts and voluntary practices; and (3) resilient forest management policies and practices. The dataset is intended to help researchers evaluate policies, help forest users and managers understand opportunities in each State or Territory, help policymakers compare programs across States, and provide a baseline for USDA national and international reporting.
State Officials Reporting Burden
State and Territory government officials are asked to respond to a new information collection about forest law and policy. Responses could take 0.5 to 8 hours per individual (an average of 3 hours), with an estimated 150 respondents and an estimated total annual burden of 450 hours; comments are due by June 12, 2026.
