Local Residents Can Comment; EA Will Address Concerns

If you live near the proposed Viola Project in Sumner County, Kansas, FERC staff will issue an environmental assessment (EA) on October 9, 2026. The EA will be open for a 30-day comment period and FERC says it will address substantive comments, including a comment about air and noise emissions and possible safety risks of a compressor station and pipeline within 1 mile of a residence.

New Gas Pipeline and Compressor to Supply Power Plant

Southern Star proposes about 19.33 miles of new 16-inch natural gas pipeline (Line UA), a Wellington Compressor Station with three compressor units totaling 12,375 horsepower, a new mainline valve, and a meter station to flow up to 116,296 dekatherms per day to supply the 710-megawatt Viola power plant owned by Evergy in Sumner County, Kansas. The project would support and supply the Viola Plant currently under construction.
