Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Written SRM Procedures and Daily Records

If you run an official establishment that slaughters or processes cattle, you must have written procedures to remove, segregate, and dispose of specified risk materials (SRMs) and keep daily records documenting implementation, monitoring, and any corrective actions per 9 CFR 310.22(e). The agency says this applies to businesses (3,512 respondents) and the information collection renewal estimates a total of 123,916 burden hours.

Transport Documentation for Older Cattle Parts

If your slaughter establishment transports carcasses or parts of cattle 30 months of age and older that contain vertebral columns, you must ensure they are accompanied by documentation stating they contain vertebral columns and keep records identifying receivers and verifying removal and proper disposal of SRM vertebral portions (per 9 CFR 310.22(g)).

30-Day Comment Opportunity on Paperwork Renewal

The Department of Agriculture is asking for public comments on renewing this information collection; comments will be considered if received by May 15, 2026. You can submit feedback about burden, usefulness, clarity, or ways to reduce respondent time and costs at www.reginfo.gov.
