1098‑T Reporting Continues Unchanged

The IRS is extending the currently approved information collection for Form 1098-T (Tuition Statement) with no change to the collection. Eligible education institutions (businesses and non‑profits) are required under IRC section 6050S to report tuition payments; the IRS estimates 24,762,900 responses, 13 minutes per response, and 5,447,838 total annual burden hours. The notice invites comments (include OMB Control No. 1545-1574) by June 16, 2026.

Students Receive 1098‑T Tuition Statements

Eligible education institutions must provide Form 1098-T reporting certain tuition payment information to both the IRS and to students. The form (1098-T) is used to report tuition under IRC section 6050S and will continue to be issued under the extended information collection.
