Summary
The Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board decided to release almost all of the 4,808 pages of records about three important civil rights cases, with only a few parts postponed for now. This means the public can finally see most of these historic documents, but some sensitive info, like sealed grand jury details, will stay hidden for now. The Board might revisit those secret parts later, and this decision was made official in April 2026.

Most Cold Case Records Released
The Review Board decided on April 3 and April 10, 2026 to disclose most of the records it received: of 4,808 pages from three civil rights incidents, 4,802 pages are released in full and 6 pages are released in part into the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection. This means the public, researchers, and journalists can access nearly all of these historic documents.
Sealed Grand Jury Info Withheld
The Board approved 10 postponements (and a portion of one) and declined to release sealed federal grand jury information now. The Board will not ask the Attorney General to petition a court to unseal that grand jury information at this time, though it may choose to do so in the future.
