Published Date: 4/21/2026

Notice

Summary

Duke Energy Carolinas got the green light to store spent nuclear fuel in a slightly different way at the Catawba Nuclear Station starting July 6, 2026. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission checked the plan and found it won’t harm the environment. This means Duke can safely keep one loaded and load nine more fuel canisters without extra costs or delays.
