Council Will Recommend More Hunting Access

The Council will provide recommendations to Federal agencies to conserve and restore wildlife habitat and to promote and expand opportunities for hunting, shooting sports, and wildlife-associated recreation, including increasing public access on public lands and encouraging development of ranges.

Call for Nominations by May 21, 2026

The Department of the Interior is seeking nominations for the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation and Access Council. Nominations must be submitted by May 21, 2026 and should include a cover letter and resume; send nominations via the supplied email address.

Member Terms, No Pay, Travel Reimbursement

Appointed Council members serve up to a 3-year term and serve without compensation. While away from home on approved Council business, members may be allowed travel expenses and per diem as authorized by 5 U.S.C. 5703 when approved by the Designated Federal Officer.

Council Size, Meetings, and Ex Officio Members

The re-established Council will have up to 18 primary representative members, up to 18 alternates, and 4 ex officio members; it will meet at least two times per year and the Secretary will appoint members. The charter is re-established for a two-year period.
