Notice
Summary
The EPA is asking to keep collecting info about big health and environmental risks from chemicals, as required by law. This affects companies and anyone who handles or studies chemicals, and the current approval expires April 30, 2026. They’re giving the public until May 26, 2026, to share thoughts before renewing the paperwork rules—no new costs or big changes, just a smooth extension.

Estimated Annual Reporting Burden and Costs
EPA estimates 40 respondents and a total annual burden of 27,883 hours and total annual cost of $2,829,844 for this information collection. EPA states the industry reporting burden increased by 10,248 hours (from 17,635 to 27,883 hours) because section 8(e) submissions rose from 343 to 552.
Mandatory TSCA Section 8(e) Reporting
If you manufacture, import, process, or distribute a chemical and you get information that reasonably shows a substantial risk to health or the environment, you must immediately notify EPA under TSCA section 8(e) (15 U.S.C. 2607(e)). This reporting obligation is mandatory for covered entities.
Electronic Reporting Option via CDX
EPA offers an electronic reporting option using the Agency's Central Data Exchange (CDX) for those required to submit TSCA section 8(e) notifications and for voluntary 'For Your Information' (FYI) notices. Entities can register and submit information electronically through CDX.
Public Access to TSCA Section 8(e) Data on ChemView
EPA makes TSCA section 8(e) data on newly discovered chemical hazards and risks available to the public through the ChemView website (https://chemview.epa.gov/chemview). Anyone can view these data online.
