Who may request repatriation

Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization may submit a written request for repatriation and must show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated organization. Written requests must be sent to the Thornton W. Burgess Society (contact: Stephen Miles Uzzo, 6 Discovery Hill Road, East Sandwich, MA 02537, email: the address in the notice); repatriation may occur on or after May 26, 2026, and the Society will decide among competing requests.
