FY2026 Javits Grant Competition Open

The Department of Education opened a competitive grant competition for the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program for Fiscal Year 2026. Eligible organizations (State educational agencies, local educational agencies, the Bureau of Indian Education, institutions of higher education, other public agencies, and private agencies or organizations) may apply through Grants.gov by 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern time on June 23, 2026.

Priorities Guide What Gets Funded

To receive funding, applicants must meet the competition's priorities: two absolute priorities focused on developing new information to improve schools' ability to identify and serve gifted and talented students (including a priority referencing Returning Education to the States), and a competitive preference priority called Meaningful Learning Opportunities for Students. These priorities shape which projects are selected for awards.

Faith-Based Groups Eligible to Apply

Faith-based organizations are explicitly eligible to apply for and receive a grant under this program on the same basis as any other private organization, consistent with Appendix A to 34 CFR part 75. This allows faith-based applicants to compete for Javits program funding.

Accessible Application Materials Available

Individuals with disabilities can request an accessible format of this notice from the contact person listed (Mildred Horner-Smith) to obtain the document in an accessible format. The Department provides that accommodation on request.
