Research Permits Renewed Without Change

If you conduct research in a National Park, the National Park Service is renewing its Research Permit and Reporting System (RPRS) information collection without changes. You must continue to use NPS scientific research and collecting permits (36 CFR 2.1 and 2.5) and the existing NPS forms (10-741A/B, 10-741C/D, 10-226) to obtain or retain the right to do research in park units.

No New Permit Fees Announced

If you apply for or hold a National Park Service research permit, the agency states there will be no new fees or "big changes" associated with this renewal and the Total Estimated Annual Non-hour Burden Cost is listed as None. The renewal is an extension of a currently approved collection (OMB Control Number 1024-0236).

Estimated Paperwork Burden and Response Time

If you apply for or report under the RPRS, the agency estimates 8,590 total annual responses and a total of 6,884 annual burden hours, with each response taking between 10 minutes and 90 minutes. Applications are collected on occasion and reports are collected annually.
