Summary

GlobalFoundries has asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to investigate certain imported semiconductor devices and their parts for patent infringement. Investigation could lead to import bans

The complainant requested a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders, and the Commission will investigate whether to issue such orders based on alleged patent infringement. If issued after the investigation, an exclusion order or cease and desist order could bar importation and U.S. sales of the accused products.

ITC opens probe on Tower-made chips

On April 27, 2026 the U.S. International Trade Commission instituted an investigation into the importation and sale of "certain semiconductor devices manufactured using Tower's RF, power management, BCD, logic, SiGe, and BiCMOS processes, including wafers and chips, and components thereof." The complaint (filed March 26, 2026, supplemented April 1, 2026) alleges infringement of U.S. Patent Nos. 8,330,235; 8,507,983; 9,093,425; 9,865,546; 10,062,748; and 10,707,167.

Respondents face 20-day response deadline

Named respondents must submit responses in accordance with 19 CFR 210.13 and will be considered only if received not later than 20 days after service of the complaint and notice of investigation; extensions will not be granted absent good cause. The notice states that failure to file a timely response may be deemed a waiver and may result in entry of an initial or final determination and issuance of an exclusion order or cease and desist order.
