Committee Size and Interest-Based Seats

Each SRS RAC will be made up of 15 members approved by the Secretary and membership must be balanced across three groups of five interests (including labor, recreation, energy/mineral/timber/grazing, environmental organizations, elected officials, tribes, school officials, and the public-at-large). The text states members will serve 4-year terms.

USDA Creates 84 Local Advisory Committees

The USDA will establish 84 Secure Rural Schools Resource Advisory Committees (SRS RACs) to advise the Secretary of Agriculture about projects and funding consistent with SRS Title II. The committees exist to improve collaboration among people who use and care for national forests and will operate under the Federal Advisory Committee Act.

Nomination Window and Application Rules

Anyone may nominate qualified individuals (including self-nominations) for SRS RAC membership, and nominations must be submitted or postmarked by May 25, 2026. Nominations must include a two-page summary of qualifications, a resume, and a completed AD-755 background disclosure form (Form AD-755).

No Pay But Travel Costs Covered

SRS RAC members will serve without compensation, but members and replacements may be allowed travel expenses and per diem for committee meetings, subject to approval of the Designated Federal Officer. Membership vacancies may be filled from the applicant pool when appropriate.

Montana Committees Consolidated

A charter renewal will create a consolidated Mineral and Missoula County RAC in Region 1 by merging the former Mineral County and Missoula County RACs. This change alters the committee structure in that area.

Alaska Committees Consolidated

A charter renewal will create the Chugach RAC in Region 10 by consolidating the Prince William Sound RAC and the Kenai Peninsula-Anchorage Borough RAC. This establishes the new Chugach committee structure in Alaska.
