Time Commitment and Pay Limits
ACRS members must be able to devote approximately 100 days per year to committee business and may not be compensated for more than 130 calendar days. Some meetings may be attended virtually.
Security Clearance and Financial Rules
Candidates will undergo a thorough security background check to obtain mandatory security clearance and must reconcile financial interests with federal and NRC rules. This may require divestiture of securities or ending certain contracts or grants and additional financial transaction disclosures under the STOCK Act.
One ACRS Vacancy — Apply by July 30
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is seeking candidates to fill one vacancy on the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. If you have relevant reactor safety experience, you can submit a resume by July 30, 2026 to be considered for appointment.
U.S. Citizenship Required
Candidates must be citizens of the United States to be appointed to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. Non-U.S. citizens are not eligible to apply for this appointment.
Typical Four-Year Appointment Term
ACRS members are generally appointed for four-year terms and may be reauthorized to serve additional terms. The Commission considers specific expertise needs when selecting members.
Specific Technical Expertise Sought
The Committee is looking for members with multidisciplinary experience in reactor core and systems performance, novel reactor coolants (gas, liquid metals, molten salts), passive safety features, TRISO and other fuels, thermal-hydraulics, chemical engineering and high-temperature materials, and international codes and standards.
