July 4 water safety zones in Duluth area
On July 4, 2026, from 9:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the Coast Guard will enforce safety zones for fireworks at Ashland (Chequamegon Bay), Bayfield (Lake Superior North Channel), Duluth (Duluth Harbor Basin, Northern Section), and LaPointe (Lake Superior). Each zone covers an arc up to 1,120 feet from the launch site, and vessel operators in those areas must follow directions from the Patrol Commander or any Official Patrol displaying a Coast Guard ensign. The Coast Guard will also notify mariners via the Local Notice to Mariners and Broadcast Notice to Mariners and can be reached on Channel 16 VHF-FM or at (218) 522-0708.
