New Paperwork Burden for Requesters
If you or your business ask the CFTC for an interpretative, no‑action, or exemptive letter under 17 CFR 140.99, you may need to provide information. The agency estimates 44 respondents annually, about 40 hours per respondent, for a total of 1,760 burden hours per year.
Staff Relief Options Available
Parties who submit requests under 17 CFR 140.99 may receive staff actions that reduce regulatory burdens, provide interpretations, or extend time to comply with certain Commission rules. Any relief granted may be conditional and/or time‑limited, depending on the facts presented.
Option for Temporary Confidential Treatment
Requesters may seek temporary confidential treatment of their submission and the Commission staff response under 17 CFR 140.98(b). This lets businesses ask for certain information to be kept temporarily private while the request is considered.
