Summary

The Office of Personnel Management wants to keep using the Optional Form 306, which job seekers fill out when applying for federal jobs or contracts. This form helps check if someone is a good fit for federal work and keeps things running smoothly—no changes are planned. If you have thoughts, speak up by July 13, 2026, but no new costs or delays are expected.

OF-306 Continues for Federal Applicants

If you apply for a Federal job or a Federal contract job, you must continue to complete Optional Form 306 (OF-306) as part of pre-appointment screening. OPM says the form is used to decide acceptability for employment and to determine retirement status and life insurance enrollment; OMB renewal is requested without changes (OMB Number 3206-0182).

Sensitive Personal Data Collected

The OF-306 asks for personal identifying data and information about law violations, convictions, imprisonments, probation, parole, military court martial, delinquency on a Federal debt, Selective Service registration, U.S. military service, Federal retirement benefits applied for or received, and life insurance enrollment. OPM says the information may be used in suitability or security clearance investigations and may be disclosed to authorized officials.

Renewal Without Change — No New Burdens

OPM is asking OMB to renew OF-306 without any changes and states that no new costs or delays are expected. OPM estimates 217,102 respondents, 15 minutes per respondent, and a total burden of 54,276 hours for the collection.
