Sponsored By: Representative Houchin

Introduced

Summary

This bill prohibits federal funding for any facility that refuses to provide treatment because of a person's COVID-19 vaccination status. It bars all federal funds and trust funds from going to facilities that deny care for that reason, explicitly covering Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

  • Patients: People cannot be turned away by federally funded health facilities for their COVID-19 vaccination status. This preserves access to care when treatment is tied to federal funding.
  • Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP beneficiaries: Seniors, children, and low-income patients who rely on these programs keep access at facilities that accept federal funds.
  • Health care facilities and providers: Any facility that refuses treatment on vaccination grounds would be ineligible to receive the federal and trust funds cited in the bill.

Ban care denials over COVID shots

This bill would block federal money to any facility that refuses to treat someone because of COVID-19 vaccination status. It would apply to all federal funds, including Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP payments. If enacted, patients, including the uninsured, would be protected at facilities that take federal funds. Facilities that turn people away for this reason could lose those payments.
