Colleges risk funds over aid to undocumented students
This bill would tie federal funding to how public colleges treat tuition and aid for students not lawfully present in the U.S. If the Education Secretary finds a public college ineligible, it would lose all federal financial assistance in the next fiscal year. A college would be ineligible if it charges those students the same or lower tuition as in-state residents, or gives them state-based financial aid. If passed, undocumented students could lose in-state rates or state aid, and other students could feel cuts if their college loses federal funds.
