Show full summary
  • Residents in those fast-growing areas would have more tenant-based rental assistance available through their local public housing agency, aiming to ease housing costs where demand outpaced prior voucher growth.
  • Eligible public housing agencies would receive additional funding based on local population, the extent existing vouchers meet affordability needs, and historical formula shortfalls.
  • The measure requires the additional assistance to supplement existing voucher allocations and directs an appropriation of $2.0 billion for fiscal year 2025, with amounts available for renewals in later years until expended.

More rental help in fast-growing areas

If enacted, HUD would give extra tenant-based vouchers to public housing agencies in fast-growing areas. Your area would need over 100,000 people and be among the 25 fastest-growing from 2012–2022. The bill would provide $2 billion for FY2025, and those funds could be used to renew vouchers in later years until used. This help would be on top of current voucher funding and would be split fairly based on population, unmet need, and past shortfalls. It would take effect upon enactment.
