Summary

Adds land to the Talladega National Forest and authorizes land acquisition there using Weeks Law authority. The bill would change the forest boundary to include the area shown on the “Talladega National Forest Proposed Proclamation Boundary Addition” map dated September 6, 2024, and keep that map on file at the Forest Service. Within that area the Secretary of Agriculture could acquire land, waters, and interests from willing sellers by donation, exchange, or purchase using donated or appropriated funds and manage those lands under the Weeks Law and National Forest System laws and regulations.

Talladega Forest boundary would expand

This bill would add land to the Talladega National Forest based on a map dated September 6, 2024. The map, titled "Talladega National Forest Proposed Proclamation Boundary Addition," would be kept at a Forest Service office for public viewing. Inside that mapped area, the Secretary of Agriculture could acquire land or water rights using existing forest purchase rules. Any private land would be acquired only from willing sellers by donation, exchange, or purchase using donated or appropriated funds. If enacted, local residents could see more conserved public forest and possible new access over time.
