Solar tax credits banned on prime farmland

This bill would stop federal clean-energy tax credits for solar that is on prime farmland. It would exclude residential solar credits and major business solar credits from applying to property placed in service on prime farmland. The change would apply to property placed in service after the date of enactment. Prime farmland is defined by reference to the Farmland Protection Policy Act.

Federal funds barred for prime farmland solar

This bill would prohibit federal agencies from using federal funds, loans, or loan guarantees for ground-mounted solar projects that would convert prime farmland. "Conversion" means causing the land to fail state rules for agricultural production. The ban covers projects that are primarily for sale of electricity and are ground-mounted. Prime farmland is defined by reference to the Farmland Protection Policy Act.
