Protect DSH Act
Sponsored By: Representative Crenshaw
Introduced
Summary
Delays Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payment reductions. This bill would amend section 1923(f) of the Social Security Act to shift the timing of scheduled DSH cuts. It replaces the references to "2026 through 2028" with "2029 through 2031" in two clauses and changes "2027" to "2031" in another clause. The net effect is to postpone the planned Medicaid DSH payment reductions by moving the applicable years later.

Delay Medicaid hospital payment cuts
If enacted, this would delay scheduled Medicaid hospital payment cuts. Reductions planned for 2026–2028 would move to 2029–2031, and a 2027 date would shift to 2031. Hospitals that serve many low-income, uninsured, and Medicaid patients would keep more federal support during those years. This could help keep local services and access to care more stable. Changes would take effect upon enactment.
