Sponsored By: Representative Fitzpatrick, Brian K. [R-PA-1]
Introduced
Summary
Creates a DoD Coordinator for Engagement with Defense Communities Affected by PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances). The bill would require the Secretary of Defense to designate an official within one year to improve outreach, education, and communication with current and former U.S. defense communities affected by PFAS contamination. The Coordinator would act as a dedicated liaison to local governments, advocacy organizations, and residents in communities where the Department has ongoing or incomplete PFAS remediation projects. The bill uses the PFAS definitions from the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021.

PFAS liaison for defense communities
If enacted, the Department of Defense would name a coordinator for communities affected by PFAS. It would do this within one year after enactment. The coordinator would improve outreach, education, and communication with current or former U.S. defense communities. The coordinator would be a single contact for local governments, advocacy groups, and residents where DoD has ongoing or incomplete PFAS cleanup projects. PFAS would use the same definitions as a 2021 defense law.
