New World Screwworm Preparedness Act of 2025

Summary

Prepares the United States to detect and respond to New World screwworm outbreaks. This bill would direct the Secretary of Agriculture, through the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, to carry out a comprehensive study and deliver a public report to Congress within six months. The study would assess threat pathways and economic and ecological impacts, evaluate sterile insect technique capacity and options for modular facilities, review surveillance, diagnostics, and border inspections, examine emergency response plans and animal movement protocols, identify research and development needs, and recommend steps to strengthen international cooperation and stakeholder coordination.
