District of Columbia Local Juror Non-Discrimination Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Del. Norton, Eleanor Holmes [D-DC-At Large]
Introduced
Summary
This bill would prohibit excluding people from District of Columbia juries because of sexual orientation or gender identity. It would expand the law's definition of "sex" to cover sex stereotypes, pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions. It would also explicitly include sexual orientation (homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality), gender identity, and sex characteristics such as intersex traits. The definition would cover the sex of someone associated with the person and perceptions or beliefs about a person's sex, even if inaccurate. The change aims to bar juror exclusion on those bases.
