Harsher penalties for attacking immigration officers
If enacted, this would create a new federal crime for assaulting or interfering with immigration officers. It would cover ICE, CBP, and other federal immigration staff. It would also cover state or local officers helping federal immigration work. The base penalty would be 5 to 20 years in prison. If someone is hurt, it would be 10 to 30 years; if someone dies, life in prison or the death penalty.
National Guard could aid immigration enforcement
If enacted, this would let the National Guard help with immigration enforcement and border security. It would apply when Guard members are on state orders from a governor. It would also apply when they are on federal orders under title 10 or 32, but only for immigration enforcement or border security tasks. These tasks could include arrest, detention, and carrying out removal orders. This change could increase enforcement activity at and near the border.
