Show full summary
  • Families and consumers: The bill says eliminating standards will reduce vehicle costs and cut regulatory uncertainty for buyers and owners.
  • Automakers, suppliers, and workers: It removes the current federal rules automakers follow under Section 202 and Title 49, and aims to ease supply-chain pressures on manufacturers, especially auto suppliers.
  • States and regulators: States and political subdivisions are barred from enforcing or maintaining any fuel-emission standards, and the bill voids references to those standards across federal laws, orders, rules, and documents.

Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Ban vehicle emissions standards nationwide

This bill would bar the Federal Government from making, enforcing, or keeping fuel emission standards for cars and trucks. It would also bar States and local governments from enforcing or keeping such standards. The bill would rewrite waiver and preemption rules so States could not adopt separate motor vehicle emission standards.

Remove federal fuel economy rules

This bill would repeal the federal laws that let the government set fuel economy and motor vehicle emissions rules. It would cancel current federal and related State standards as of the day after enactment. If enacted, automakers would no longer have those federal requirements. Households could see higher fuel use and changes to air quality.
